Couple Knows Something’s Wrong When 3 Teens Sneak Into Neighbor’s Garage, So They Chase Them

A married couple from East Grand Rapids, Michigan, were honored recently for doing what the husband, Daniel Mehney, called “our civic duty” after they saw something odd happening in a neighbor’s garage.

“We just saw a bunch of boys eyeballing the garage,” Daniel recalled.

He and his wife, Brooke, were on their way home when they spotted three young men going into the garage of a neighbor on their block.

Seeing that gave them a weird feeling.

They knew something wasn’t right.

“We just kept an eye on them and took action,” Daniel said.

The couple did a lot more than that!

First, they called their neighbor on the phone. Their neighbor quickly reacted and showed themselves to the three men.

They quickly ran from the garage, but the Mehneys weren’t done.

“Mr. and Mrs. Mehney were able to chase the boys in their car and then on foot,” East Grand Rapids Police Chief Mark Herald said.

Eventually, the couple were able to catch one of the young men, and after contacting the authorities, police recovered the stolen property taken from the garage.

“Had they not done that, this would have gone down as an unsolved crime,” Chief Herald said.
