Twins hold a special fascination for many people. But one American city has a special history when it comes to twins — and they really know how to celebrate their “namesake”!
Every year since 1976, Twinsburg, Ohio has been holding an annual Twins Days Festival. Siblings from all over the world travel to the Summit County city to celebrate their status as part of a set of twins.
Many pairs of twins love to attend the festival, coming back for years on end to see their other “twin friends.” Some pairs told Fox8 that “twins are the only ones who know what it’s actually like to be a twin.”
This year’s Twins Days Festival, which was held the first weekend of August 2017, was particularly special. It coincided with the bicentennial of Twinsburg, a city originally founded in 1817 by identical twins Aaron and Moses Wilcox.
For the special “TwinCentennial,” festival organizers encouraged their attendees to dress according to their country of origin, to show their state or city pride, or to represent their family’s heritage.
Contrary to its name, Twins Days Festival isn’t just limited to twins. The festival is actually open to all siblings who are part of a multiple set, whether they are identical or fraternal, and also welcomes triplets, quadruplets, and beyond.
