Emma Carper was excited to turn 10 years old on August 7, 2017, but unlike her friends who would be throwing birthday parties and receiving gifts for themselves, Emma wanted to help out her local animal shelter!
Instead of opening presents, Emma started collecting supplies like dog and cat food, soap and treats for shelter animals.
“There was a sign out front that said, ‘donations needed’,” Emma says about what sparked her idea. “And I was like, ‘someone needs to do something about that.’”
That’s when she told her mom about her plan and she recorded a video of her daughter asking for supplies for animals instead of toys. Her mom posted the video along with a caption on Facebook and the rest is history!
“I am asking you to please purchase one of these items and bring it by my house before my birthday,” Emma says in her video. “On August 7, I will spend my birthday at the animal shelter volunteering and dropping off these items!”
The video was viewed over 4,000 times, which helped Emma collect more than 1,500 pounds of dog food for the animal shelter!
“It makes me feel very, very awesome,” Emma smiles knowing her selflessness has helped so many animals in need!
