Newlywed Husband’s Vision Completely Deteriorates. 20 Years Later, ‘Bionic Eye’ Gives Him Sight

When Walfre Lopez married the love of his life, he knew his life was going to change forever – but not in the way it did.

Shortly after he and his wife Marioly wed, he realized his eyesight was starting to change. Walfre was slowly losing his vision due to an inherited genetic disorder.

He was diagnosed with retinitis pigmentosa, or RP, which gradually deteriorates the light-sensitive cells in the back of the eye. He completely lost his sight at the age of 23 or 24 and lived that way for 20 years. He never even saw his own 12-year-old daughter’s face. But that was all about to change.

One day, after searching on the Internet, he found out about a special “bionic eye” that would change everything.

He tried on a pair of Argus II Retinal Prosthesis glasses and suddenly, some of his sight came back.

In the video below, posted on July 31, 2017, Walfre’s wife explains, “We cried! Everybody cried that day!”

Thanks to Walfre’s new bionic eye, he can see all of the things he missed for over 20 years. Although his vision isn’t perfect with the bionic eye, it still gives him a whole new perspective of the world – one he hadn’t seen in a long time.

Check out the full story in the video below, and please SHARE if you’re so glad Walfre has some of his sight back!
