This is one unbelievable story.
In 2001, Elizabeth Stringer Keefe was in New York City when she found a lost dusty photo on the ground. It showed six friends smiling and posing together at a wedding that had recently taken place in Aspen, Colorado.
Elizabeth, a college professor, recovered the bent and tattered picture from the ash and rubble in the wake of 9/11. The people in the photo had no idea they were now part of a mystery that would take over a decade to solve.
Elizabeth spent the next 13 years trying to find someone tied to the photograph. She didn’t even know if they were alive or dead.
On each anniversary of 9/11, the curious stranger took to social media asking for any information about the photo or the people in it. Years passed, and she always came up empty-handed no matter how tirelessly she worked.
But then, in September 2014, Elizabeth received a message online from Fred Mahe. He said he was the man in the photo staring directly at the camera.
Watch the video below to see how this incredible story panned out… and how Elizabeth’s determination to return the photo to its rightful owner showed kindness and compassion in the face of such monstrosity.
