Thanks to a busy drive-thru and an alert security guard, a kidnapping attempt got stopped in its tracks.
Yuba City Police told KXTV Sacramento that a security guard named Terry Wilson-Fernandez stepped in and stopped a potential abduction. According to Terry, he just happened to find himself in the right place at the right time, thanks to a busy drive-thru.
“I had just gotten off work,” the security guard recalled to KXTV. “I was going to get some food.”
He initially wanted to just get his food from a nearby fast food restaurant, but the drive-thru was too busy. Terry decided to drive off to Yuba City.
That fateful change of direction led him right into a harrowing situation.
The police told KXTV that at the next drive-thru Terry went to, a man jumped out of some nearby bushes and grabbed an unsuspecting woman. He tried pulling her towards his car.
“At first, I didn’t even realize it was happening. It was so surreal, but after about five seconds, I realized that she needed help,” Terry recalled.
The security guard leapt into action. He pushed the man out of the way before he could succeed in shoving the woman into his vehicle. “I didn’t care if he would have tried to attack me. If he had weapons — none of that mattered. The only thing that mattered was that she was safe,” Terry said.
He then called the police and they arrested the suspect.
