Strangers Check Husky’s Microchip To Learn He’s Been Missing From Home Nearly 300 Miles Away

A woman was reunited with her husky, Champ, after nearly a year of searching. Yet, no one truly knew why he was gone for so long, and how he managed to get so far away from home.

Nearly 300 miles away, to be exact!

According to CBS Sacramento, Shaunta Lowman last saw Champ in April of 2017. “We don’t know exactly what happened,” Shaunta said to CBS. “He was missing one day and then I went looking for him.”

CBS reported that Champ was missing for 10 months. Officials told CBS that they believed the husky was likely stolen.

“He’s been gone for such a long time, but I never stopped giving up hope,” Shaunta said.

Luckily she didn’t, because Champ did turn up — just farther than she ever could have expected!

Nearly a year after he went missing, Champ turned up in Bakersfield, California. That’s almost 300 miles away from his home.

A group of complete strangers that made up a nationwide husky rescue organization found Champ.

When they checked his microchip, they discovered how far he came.

Determined to return him to his rightful home, the group made the long journey from Bakersfield to Sacramento. Each step of the way a new good samaritan helped bring Champ home.

“They were complete strangers. Literally all of them were complete strangers to me, and they helped me get my dog back home,” Shaunta said.
